Arrive at Imphal, the culturally rich capital of Manipur. Check into your hotel and freshen up. Visit Kangla Fort, the ancient royal palace and heart of Manipuri civilization. Explore Govindajee Temple, a striking Vaishnavite shrine adjacent to the former Maharaja’s palace. Wander through Ima Keithel (Mother’s Market), Asia’s largest women-run market, to discover local crafts and produce. Evening at leisure or stroll around Imphal for authentic local cuisine.
Breakfast at your hotel. Tour the Manipur State Museum to learn about the region’s tribal traditions, history, and biodiversity. Visit Saheed Minar at Bir Tikendrajit Park, commemorating the martyrs of the Anglo-Manipur War. Explore the Mapal Kangjeibung, the world’s oldest living polo ground. Visit the WW2 Cemeteries, honoring the soldiers who fought in the Battle of Imphal. Enjoy a traditional Manipuri lunch, sampling dishes like Eromba and Ngari. End your day with sunset views from Cheirao-Ching hilltop.
Take a day-trip south to Loktak Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India. Boat ride among the unique phumdis (floating islands).
